    Hello-

I’m new to Avid. I’m switching over from Final Cut Pro. We have version 4 here at work. I have DV footage I want to edit. It was shot 24pa and I already captured it to 23.98 Quicktime files with the pulldown removed. The link to AMA files is not working (it’s greyed out for some reason) so I am attempting to import the files. I have the project set to 23.976. The resolution of the project is 720×486 then? How does the Avid compensate for the difference in resolutions?

I’m attempting to import a shot into the Avid and export it but the shot is not working the same. I tried using the DV25P codec but when I drop the shot into a timeline and export it as is I get aliasing in the shot as if it was low resolution. When I export the shot out of the bin with the same settings it looks correct. If I import the shot with 3:1,2:1,1:1 MXF files the files export properly. Why is this happening?

I also noticed some significant banding in the transcode even when I use 1:1 10bit MXF. I’m assuming a capture from the tape would be a better option? How does the Avid deal with 24pa material from firewire sources?

    Thanks.

If you look in the Film/24p settings, you will have all the support for 24pA and 24pN support for capture over FireWire.

I don’t think it was so much overlooked as prioritized. The storage savings from 115 to 36 was greater than 60 to 36 so that’s the main reason.

HA, you answered my question in the wrong thread.

I don’t have DNxHD60 as an option. 145 is the lowest option I get for 720p60. But answer this in the OTHER thread.

So if I am using a 23.976 NTSC setting in the Avid I am in a 720×486 timeline? How does the Avid handle the difference in frame sizes? Just it merely pad the DV footage adding black to the top and bottom of the frames?

Is re-capturing the footage the best way to work with my DV files?
