DV files Premiere6.5 vs. CS2/CS3
Hi folks,
I still use a Targa3000 + Premiere 6.5
I’ve tested Premiere CS2 and CS3 on a laptop and have the same problem
CS2/CS3 import and display properly DV and YUVuncompressed from the TARGA.
When I export a DV PAL from CS2/3, Premiere 6.5 + Targa3K does NOT give me video OUT.
(I only have image on the monitor window, if I press ALT+mouse)Aren’t DV files “UNIVERSAL” ?
What can be wrong ?

Not familiar with the TARGA3000. I assume its a long in the tooth Media Card for RT effects Playback/Output to a TV. like my old MatorxRT2000.
DV doesn’t always mean DV. Quicktime DV is different to Microsoft DV even though they are both a DV signal wrapped up in the the MOV or AVI wrapper.
I’m assuming the TARGA3000 has its own DV style codec as my old Matrox did. Still read as DV and was what captured in DV, but it was actually a Matrox based code. I’d double check your codec type info. Is there are way to export from 6.5 with a Targa3000DV setting? If so that’s probably what’s allowing you realtime not microsoftDV? If you are wanting to see your work on a monitor the colour corrections or whatever you can simply plug in a DV camera with firewire to the CS2 or CS3 PPro and have that signal go out of the camera to a monitor using the output cables on the camera. The setting is in Playback settings in the top corner of the Program window.

On the same laptop that has CS2/3 there’s also Combustion.
It exports Microsoft AVI DV files and Premiere 6.5 accepts those files properly.
Procoder does the same.It’s quite strange, for me, this situation.
My Targa3000 has YUV out and is connected to a Sony Broadcast monitor. It works ok.
Premiere 6.5 has always accepted DV files from other machines, Combustion, ProCoder, etc.I need to do a couple of effects using Premiere CS on a series of clips.
But I “have” to edit in the main room with proper monitoring on the SONY.
Edit in the Laptop is not an option for me righht now.I can understant that are several DV types of files, but why ProCoder generates Microsoft DV AVI and P6.5 reads them properly?
Combustion generates Microsoft DV AVI and P6.5 read them properly.
Etc. Etc.WHY does Premiere CS2 and CS3 creates Microsoft DV AVI files that Premiere 6.5 does NOT read ????
Seems that is not a Type1 or Type2 issue.If you have the SUPERIOR kindness, I can send you a 2sec clip of both formats of AVI DV (generated on P6.5 and generated on CS2/CS3)
