August 19, 2007 at 4:34 amI think CS3 allows you to chop up video on the timeline, then open each clip and place a subclip in the bin. Why you can’t just drag a clip from the timeline to a bin like in other edit systems I don’t know.
In 2.0 and earlier, you can only make a subclip from video in the bin. So you open the raw DV clip in the bin, set in and out, make a subclip, repeat.
An alternative I have used, is to drag your DV clip to the timeline, chop up into usable clips. Then once done chopping up all your tapes, run the Project Manager, which will trim the project, making a new DV file for each clip on the timeline, and saving this as a new project.Good luck.

August 19, 2007 at 5:13 amI’d think that the latter suggestion from Mike might be easiest for your workflow if the media is used for multiple projects…which i think is what you are implying, I could be wrong of course.
When the clip is cut up with only the selected parts on the timeline, you can run the project manager and trim the project, which will section up the video into the clips you’ve used with whatever handles you specify all contained in a new file directory. This allows you to delete the original media from the drive if space becomes an issue.

August 19, 2007 at 5:58 pmMike and Tim,
thanks for responding, you are exactly right, I would have 6 tapes one for every game. The tape is usually one hour long. I would capture each tape, as Game1, Game2 and so on. I would then edit the hour long tape and keep only the cuts that I want. One hour tape could be edited down to say 15 minutes of actual footage. Depending on the game and footage, I could have 25 different clips from the game. I need to save these clips as actual footage with a name on each clip that I can use in different projects.I tried your suggestion on a small movie I have and cut the movie up into 6 different clips, (only about a minute long on each cut) as a test. I renamed each cut to something that noted what the clip was about I used Project Manager, and chose

August 20, 2007 at 10:18 pmOK, I tried this again, but this time from scratch.
I captured some footage from DV tape, about 5 minutes for a test. Cut the footage up into 7 clips and renamed each of the clips to match what the clip represents. I then used Project manager and this time it did make 7 clips, but the name where still of the original capture and not what I renames the individual clips. How do I get Project manager to save the names I make the clips? or what is the proper way to do this?
Thanks Mark.
