DV Date Plugin Users – Installation problems
I’m not at my own computer, but supposed to help an associate install DV Date plugin and propose a way of using it to display time code on video pictures. However, while I had no difficulty in using it on my own system, I can’t get my friend’s copy of Premiere Pro 1.5 (Starsky – S158 – 5/7/2004)[R]) to make it work.
In my version of 1.5 once you apply the filter and open the set up, you see in the setup frame, a frame of the clip to which you have applied the filter. And, then you make adjustments as to whether you want time of day code or time code. All the footage in question was originally shot digitally on cameras which provide either of the above.
However, even after installing the plugin key the plugin set up for DV Date is unresponsive.
Any collective wisdom appreciated.

You have not made it clear exactly where/how the plug in is not working for your friend. ie. What does “un-responsive “mean in this instance?
BTW: is it his own copy of the plug in with his own reg.key ?

The DV Date plug was automatically extracted to the correct location in PP1.5 and the registration key he purchased and was sent to him was copied into the same folder. (I did this with my own key and had no problems. The plugin became active immediately.)
So, the filter was applied to the first clip in the timeline, and effect controls was opened for that clip showing the applied Video Effects and the presence of “DV Date”. I clicked on the setup icon to the right of the name and DV Date opened. HOWEVER, there is no video presence in the setup window of the first clip in the timeline to which I applied the filter, it is entirely grey, and there is no typed text line, nor visible time code.
Originally, when I installed my own copy with my own reg. key, I had no difficulties in seeing the video to which I was applying DV Date filter, and I could easily switch between time of day and running time code and to imput a text line, and size and resize until I got it the way I wanted it to look.
In my friend’s case, the video clip used was originally shot in miniDV and transferred to the HDD by using Premiere Pro 1.5 (Starsky 2004) screen detect.
BTW, when I tried the unregistered version from the dve.nm.ru website, originally on my own system, I could see the video footage in DV Date setup to which the plugin was applied with no difficulty, except the time code and text line were mixed up. Once I copied my reg. key into that directory where the plugin resided, I could adjust all the features as I desired to the first clip in the timeline. I then copied the attributes to other clips in the timeline Time Code visible, Textline visible.

It is the public plugin from the website, and the key he was sent by email. The only difference I can see is that the copy of Premiere Pro 1.5 is registered to his project name, while the DV Date key is registered to him in his own name.

The solution in the end was quite simple. Ilya reminded me that the colour settings had to be “Highest (32 bit)” and the image became available immediately. Ah…what a wonderful thing this Internet and the people who give so freely of their time and encouragement.

I have tried for weeks trying to get this to work but no luck. I can apply the effect to a clip and can put the date where I want it but when I click on “play” it just flashes “dvdatedemo”. Have not had any help from Ilya to get this to work for me. Any ideas?

I assume you purchased a key for the programme? It isn’t costly and the benefit of the programme for my work is very significant.
It you did purchase a key by email, you need to copy that file into the directory where the plugin resides. Namely,
Root\Program Files\Adobe\Premiere Pro 1.5\Plug-ins\en_US\DVdate
It’s a very useful programme and hope this helps.

Thank you for the help. I did purchase a key but have not been able to make it work. I have tried what you suggested but will give it another shot. I really need to get this to work. I may call on you again if I continue to have problems with this.

I tried what you suggested. I copied the key into the directory where the plugin resides, viz:Root\Program Files\Premiere Pro 1.5\Plug-in\en_US\DVdate. When I apply it to a clip, it appears. When I play the clip, the time stamp starts advancing and then every few seconds “DVdateDemo” flashes in place of the time stamp. What is the problem with this? Please help!

I can’t really give you anything definitive, I’m afraid. I might try reinstalling the plugin, first of all deleting just that directory in the plugin directory/folder. I assume you’re using PP1.5. Then, reinstall the plugin, and afterwards copy the key into the newly created folder. Beyond that you might write to Ilya Topolnitsky at dve@nm.ru
