  DV codec for archiving

  If I’m editing with miniDV footage, and then I export to *.avi NTSC DV, is that theoretically maintaining the most quality(like for archival purposes). I guess I could also use another wrapper like *.mov with a NTSC DV setting as well right? (I’m excluding uncompressed export)

  Also, is there a way to letterbox the *.avi NTSC DV (720×480) within a 640×480 frame. I couldn’t figure it out. I could specify the output frame size with a *.mov, but not with the *.avi. I get a little bit confused with the various pixel and picture aspect ratios and what settings can be adjusted with each codec.
