    Hi there

    My environment
we use unity server as our source for dvcam ingest.
we use adrenalines for the longer form non-news

    my situation
got 5 half hour crime programmes that need copious amounts of “blobbed dodgy geezers”!! – (and geezettes)

    my problem
we’ve exported each prog as two qt movies, compressed (obviously) with the avid dv codec. They’re about 2.5 gig each (no audio)
gfx have imported said media and blobbed until blue in face.
gfx have then rendered uncompressed qt’s – each about 20gig!!!!
exported qt’s expected to fill up 200gig!!
our exported media storage area under severe duress!!!

    my question
can we blob and export the qt movies using the avid dv codec? Will we be re-compressing if we do this? Feel like a bit of a clutz asking this!

    thanks

Can you not add the blob or pixelate on your Avid editing system within the DV environment? We do it all the time with Avid NewsCutter.

    Hi there

unfortunately that’s not an option! Not sure who it is most unfortunate for…
…as everyone seems to hate blobbing in equal measure!

Especially given that the nature of this load is all handheld_camera_wobbly_as_sin_reality_tv take on crime on the streets stuff. And it would take the editors (or journos) much longer than the gfx bods.

Anyway, we bit the biscuit and did an impromptu house clearance to make space and it’s all done and dusted.

    Thanks

Wobble_cam. Oh dear. Say no more – I know exactly what you mean. There’s a lot to be said for large cameras and tripods.

    PD170 + Journo = Mess!

    Cheers,

    Richard.

Yes you can render to the Avid DV codec if you wish.

    Hi Mike

    Thanks for the reply

Do you mean that by doing so, I won’t be adding to the compression already there, or that you feel that two compressions are an acceptable limit prior to the final compression at TX?

    Cheers

    Justin
