DV chroma key
Posted by Dick Rosebud on April 11, 2006 at 9:07 amHave a shoot coming up. Thinking of doing a green screen with talking head subject. Have to shoot DV, can I get a clean chroma key with DV? Should I just shoot a standard background if I want the best results possible with DV? Thank you!

April 11, 2006 at 1:47 pmKeying DV can be challenging…and PPro doesn’t do it very well by itself.
I use AE or Serious Magic Ultra for keying. By taking an extra step or two in AE with Keylight, Serious Magic does a god job also if you want to own a standalone keyer. You can do pretty well with DV as long as the shot is lit well…and I use actual chroma key paint, which I think makes the process much easier.

April 11, 2006 at 10:48 pmI think you’ll probably be fine.
Given a choice…(How often does THAT happen…?), sure, I’d like to use a 4:2:2 system like Digibeta or DVC Pro50.

April 13, 2006 at 4:53 amYou might want to do a test or two first. DV is much harder to key with. Serious Magic is the only software that gave us a good result.
If you do a test with DV, try varying the exposure a half or full stop either way to see which gives you the best results.
