DV Capture: Soft Edges
Hi everyone, long time reader, first time posting.
I’m having this peculiar issue with capturing footage from a DV Deck in FCP. I was working with some video processes in an analog system that was being recorded with a Sony GD/HV700 deck *SD Capture*. When I play the tape back on the deck into a monitor via component or S-video, the footage looks great, the edges are sharp and the colors are accurate.
The problem occurs once I try to capture the footage into FCP via firewire. The footage gets softer edges and the color is different *although I understand that this is fixable, the edges are the issue*. Although I know the tape tape has no codec, the footage upon capture looks like someone was transcoding prores 422 to dv-ntsc.
I tried the normal DV-NTSC capture preset with Firewire NTSC device preset, tried some custom settings, tried 3 different firewire cables, tried 3 different generations of apple computers with different hard drive speeds, and nothing seems to change.
So my question is this: How do I capture the footage as I see it on the component output? It is literally night and day. Thanks ahead of time!
