I’m working on a title sequence in which individual letters drop like footprints onto an image of dried mud. I’d like to have a puff of dust come up from each footfall. Any and all ideas cheerfully considered.

    Thanks

if this is needs to be realistic puff of smoke, I would use a stock footage element of a puff of smoke recorded live on black background and use the screen blend mode or remove the black through some matte removing procedure or plugin. you could try to recreate this yourself with the particular plugin but this could take some time. if you want it to look cartoon like then it’s shape layer a-la cell animation (requires a lot of practice) or use a bought preset: google “flash FX Elements”
