I am currently looking to purchase a Panasonic 100a camera that is used. It currently has 184 hours on it. In terms of usage is this low or would it be soon time to change heads.

    Thanks

It’s not bad- that’s a moderate to large amount of usage. Ask how often the seller used the head cleaner and had it professionally cleaned. If he/she doesn’t know what your talking about I’d pass. So many used and low priced new DVX100s there’s no reason to buy a less than ideal one.

My DVX100 has 800 hours on it with maybe 7 head cleanings all time. I have mixed and matched tapes and it works as well as the day I bought it.

As long as there is nothing else wrong with it you should be fine.

PS, for the most part I started using the Panasonic pro dry formula tapes which seems to have been good for the camera.

Good luck. This is an awesome camera if you don’t need HD.
