Hello! First time poster, long time reader.

I’m making an animation in Vegas Pro 14 that involves two diagonal bars sliding into frame, and meeting at center screen. One comes from the top right of the frame and the other from the bottom left. To accomplish this, I started the first bar off screen (from the top right corner) and used Track Motion to move it to its final position at the center. I then duplicated that track, deleted the new track’s keyframes, started the new bar at an equidistant point from the center (so that it would slide from the bottom left corner), and again used Track Motion to animate it.

For some reason, the second one pauses at the second keyframe in the animation. I built them the exact same way for each track, and the original animates smoothly while the duplicated one does not. Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

    Hi Hubert

Hope I understood your predicament correctly. If not, let us know.

Why not just copy your time line, add to second time line and then, in the Track Motion box, right click and use Flip Horizontal and/or Flip Vertical. This way, you get an exact copy of whatever you’re using with, hopefully, the effect desired.

    Cheers !

    Thanks for the reply, Francois.

So I think I did what you suggested. I inserted a new video track, copied the track that performed properly, and pasted it in the new track. I then went into the original track’s Track Editor, copied its keyframes, and pasted those into the Track Editor of the new track. Next, I right clicked in the new track’s Track Editor window, and used Flip Horizontally and Flip Vertically, assuming this is what you were suggesting. For whatever reason, video didn’t really change at all. I can visibly see that the animation flips once at the start of playback, but it doesn’t move to the other side of the screen at all. It simply rotates in place one time.

Well it sounds like a key frame issue. Track motion works just fine but can cause problems on the track if you aren’t razor sharp with you placement of key frames. Probably either the placement of the keyframes is off somehow or at least in relation to the location of the image or maybe the image itself either has something done or not done to it.

Ah! You are correct that it was the image itself having something done to it, and perhaps also that the keyframes aren’t razor sharp. After a lot of trial and error I just noticed that the path of the properly-functioning track isn’t a straight line, and it’s supposed to be. Apparently, when I made the middle keyframe, I also adjusted the image’s location a bit and didn’t realize that. This mistake just so happened to produce exactly the effect I was looking for, so I never realized it was caused by an error on my part.

So, I simply opened a calculator, mathed out the position difference between keyframe 1’s location and keyframe 2’s, and then applied the same difference to the movements of my copied track. Problem solved.

I appreciate the suggestions! I’m sure I’ll be back to sponge more knowledge in the future. Take care.
