  • Duplicate project + used clips… did this change?

So, I don’t think I’ve done this in 10.0.6 yet. But I’ve done it in the past. I work with native h264 canon footage. When I import, I don’t copy to the event. So the event itself is full of aliases.

In the past, when the project is complete, I’ve created a consolidated version of the project by duplicating the project + used files. It creates a new project and event with only the media used in the project. it’s the closest thing we have to a media manager at this point.

So, before 10.0.6, even though my media was all just aliases, it still duplicated the files and put them in a new event. All nice and tidy. But today, in 10.0.6, it just duplicates the aliases. That doesn’t help at all. What the heck? Revealing in finder takes you to the same original media clip as the original event. All it did is make me a nice new folder of aliases representing just the used clips. Useless.

Am I forgetting something or is this classic Apple?

Yes, this has changed. Use feedback to ask to have this changed back.

    All the best,

    Tom

While I’m still pretty sure FCP X’s methods did change, I found an answer. After the event is duplicated, highlight the new event and go to file>organize event files. This will copy all the media that is aliased into the event folder. I swear I didn’t have to do this step in the past. But I guess now we have the option of duplicating an event with just the used clips as aliases. I guess from there you can organize or transcode the new event if you prefer.

Now if we could just add some sort of trimming/handles we’d have full blown media management.

See my post below. All you have to do is highlight the new event and choose file>organize event files and they’ll be copied to the event. One more step, but in the end you have more options.
