  • Duplicate frame every 5th—possible to fix?

Posted by Phillip Powell on July 13, 2007 at 10:24 pm

Here’s the set up: captured (by another editor, now departed) from Panasonic 1200A, DVC Pro Edited Master and DVC Pro 720p 24 camera master, edited and out put back to DVCPRO.

Sent out for HD up-rez to 1080i HD Cam, and their engineer called and says ‘hey, duplicate
frame every 5th…’ and checked the sequence and source clips and yeah, is true.

O.k., so, what do I do from here to fix this?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

Shoot at 30 fps? Video runs at 30 frames per second. If you shoot 24p, then, just like film, you have to have pulldown added. Now, whether the pulldown is being added correctly or not has been quite the debate with FCP lately, but essentially, there’s no way to not duplicate something. Usually the duplicate frame is an interlaced blend of duplicate frames, but I guess if you’re going progressive then it would simply be a duplicate frame? Not my area of expertise.

Maybe JES Deinterlacer would work. Google it. I have used it to automatically reverse telecine footage from Canon HV20 24p clips that are recorded to 60i tape. The problem is the cadence is never the same in every clip and there are no flags to help. It checks the clip quickly and then removes the pulldown to a new file.
