  • Duplicate Clip Then Change Reel Name?

Posted by Christopher Kinsman on March 26, 2008 at 11:41 pm

I’m working on a 2 camera project where I’d like to log Cam A’s footage and be able to turn around and duplicate the undigitized clip and assign it Cam B reel name. Since Cam A and Cam B timecodes are within 15 frames of each other, it seems like a real time saver to be able to accomplish this with fat in’s and out’s. Trying to switch the reel name in the browser changes reel name for both clips. What’s the proper way? Any help is greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Chris K

A couple of ways, export all of your clips to a batch list, open that batch list in Excel, change the reel names and clip names. Save as a tab delim. text file. Reimport as a batch list and recapture (sounds more difficult than it is).

The other way is to dupe all the clips in FCP, make them NEW master clips, change the reel name and clip name and recapture.

Excel is much easier and more fool proof, not that you are a fool by any means.
