I’ve got an older mac w/ AE 6.5 and I’ve upgraded to CS3 (and FCP studio 2) for a new Mac.

Everything’s wine & roses, but unfortunately my HD card for the new mac is on backorder so I still need to use the old system for a few weeks.

I don’t want to install AE & FCP on the new system and invalidate the licenses on my older mac (which I still need to do paid work). My assumption is that I’d be OK as long as my new computer isn’t running AE or FCP while I open them on the older (working) machine. Is that true?

although I don’t think legally it’s cool to run the old software after you use it to upgrade on another machine, since the license is supposed to follow the software, the software isn’t going to expire all of a sudden just because you bought the upgrade.

I also don’t think that using it on both machines for a couple of weeks is going to bring down the wrath of the lawyers on your head, but I wouldn’t use it for longer than you have to. I also don’t think it’s a big deal if you keep the 6.5 version on the same machine as the CS3 version, but I don’t know the legality of such a thing. I would imagine though, for developers who are writing plugins to work with older and newer versions of AE, that they probably would do just that. But I could be wrong.

I thought Adobe allowed you to use the same license on two computers (work/home, desktop/laptop) as long as they weren’t being used simultaneously… Shouldn’t matter if they are different versions.

Versions don’t matter. I have from 5 up to CS3 lookin pretty on my system. I still use 6.5 a lot the time actually.
