December 24, 2016 at 1:46 amI haven’t seen the broken rig problem you’re describing but in my experience time-remapping puppet pin animations is a bad idea–there are so many keyframes and expressions that are time-related that it can result in jerky looking animation and other weirdness. I’m not an expert in DUIK but that’s been my experience.
I know it’s tempting when you see your animation is moving too slow or too fast to just precomp all the layers and then start time remapping until you get the speed you need but it often causes more problems than it solves, especially later on if you have to do revisions. It’s better to get all your keyframes in the original comp to time correctly. The best way to do it is to highlight all the keyframes you want to move stretch or shrink. Then grab the first or last keyframe, hold the alt key and drag. This will stretch them all (or shrink them), maintaining the same proportional distance between each keyframe. Just do this until you get the right speed for your animation.
If you must do time remapping with a DUIK comp, it’s best to export a lossless AVI of your comp and then import the video back into After Effects and do the time remapping on the video file. Although not an ideal solution, if you’re pressed for time, it may help you get the job done quickly and avoid all the quirky weirdness that happens when retiming a puppet pin animation.

December 24, 2016 at 4:50 pmRob Logan-THANK YOU!!!! You may have not experienced this issue but in answering this post you most likely save me countless hours in refinement. The puppet pin and workflow information is invaluable.
Much appreciated!

January 9, 2017 at 3:04 amEXTENDING / INCREASING DuIK COMPS [LAYERS]
Is there a method of increasing the length of a comp rigged with DuIK? The comps were set up with 336 frames [24/sec]. I need to increase the length to 1210 frames [874 additional].
The rig generates serious errors/falls apart when the comp is increased.
Plan B is to edit 3 clips together. Problem is there are 6 characters.

May 10, 2017 at 7:05 pmI’ve been struggling for days with a DUIK issue that is really giving me trouble. Whenever I import an existing rig using the “Import Rig in Comp” feature, everything seems fine until I try to animate the controllers. As soon as I create keyframes, the controllers stop working.
The details are enumerated by another user directly on the Rainbox forum, but it has received no help: https://forum.rainboxprod.coop/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=92
I’m beyond frustrated at this point, and it’s costing me time and money on this project. Please help!!!

June 15, 2021 at 11:04 pmWhat’s the best way to delete a rig, make a change and then rerig a model? I have an arm comp with different hands and would like to rerig the arm after adding new hand options (like open palm, or thumbs up) If I don’t rerig, it causes problems with little bits of the hand and fingers ending up outside the area of influence and floating around the model. Thanks!
