I’m a one-man outfit and sometimes want to go wireless for speed and mobility in documentary interviews with say two Senny AVX into a C100, (instead of via my SD 633 which has automixing). I then manually automate the levels in Final Cut Pro X with keyframes so that only the talking head mic is up and the other/s are dropped around -20dB. This cleans up any phase issues and focuses the audio, so I’m happy with the results. The downside is the time suck in long interviews. I know Waves have a Dugan plugin, but that is nuts expensive. I wonder if something like audio ducking could be implemented in post using a compressor or gate to get a similar effect. Rather than re-invent the wheel I thought I’d put out the call in the hope/expectation that such a workflow has already been figured out by someone smarter than myself.
