The Canon XL1S has ports on the back for audio and video RCA, next to an S-video port. My old VCR just has RCA ports, no S-video. If I connect the RCA A/V from the VCR to the camera, I do not see the image from the VCR in the camera’s viewfinder.

Checking the manual, I saw that if you put the audio input (switch on the side in the white part) on “audio 1,” then the viewfinder menu will allow you to select “line” as an audio input, but there is no entry for selecting video input.

Strangely, in the manual (p.88) it shows how to dub from a TV or VCR but says to use the S-video port for the video and makes no mention of the other port. It even has a diagram of an RCA A/V cable connecting the VCR to the camera, with the part that would go in the video unconnected.

I even have the S-video cable, but my VCR is strictly RCA or RF (which of course doesn’t help).

Am I missing some way to tell this camera to use the RCA video input?
