    Hi All,
I posted recently with a bug that keeps me from creating subclips from footage synced with pluraleyes (read more here, if you like). If you’d care to share, I’d love to hear how YOU do dual-system audio interview sync workflow. Do most people simply not work with subclips?

    Thanks,
    J

My workflow is a bit crazy because I actually use the $40,000 camera for audio and timecode, mainly because we have the wireless drop in mics, but I shoot a 3 camera DSLR setup, audio and visual reference on the PMW-350.

The camera ops know to only stop recording when I say cut and as long as everyone starts and stops at the same time your are golden.

I take the clips into Premiere CC and build a timeline just for sync but I can stack each take ontop of the audio and sync in CC. Works like a champ.

One of my biggest annoyances currently with the way that Premiere CC syncs is that if I have multiple video clips and a single audio clip, I can’t synchronize. I have to do it separately each time and trim back the edges. It makes for a pretty seriously slow-down in my workflow.

I never had great luck with PluralEyes, seems like it only worked between 70-80% of the time and the other 20-30% was a bear to sync.

At first it seemed like a chore but it would only take a few hours to sync 100% of my stuff(about 60-75 minutes of raw footage).

I’ve just been using the premiere cc multi-cam to sync via audio.
Even for non-multicam shoots it’s been great to sync up a timeline.

I have used pluraleyes in the past, but premiere just seems easier.

It’s worked well and been very accurate so far.

    Justin,

I’m used Premiere CC to sync many interviews that were shot with 2-3 cameras plus external audio and it almost always syncs fine. It took me a while experimenting with the settings to get it to work right because at first I was having a similar problem to you. Unfortunately I’m not at my machine and I can’t remember off hand what settings I use. I’ll try to remember to post them tomorrow.

    Thanks Andrew.

Do you do it within a sequence? Because when I select multiple video clips and an audio clip, “synchronize” is grayed out. Do you instead do it from the Project panel? When I do the whole “Merge Clips” thing from the project panel, I tend not to get particularly good results. I try again today or tomorrow to be more detailed about that.

you do it from the bins.

select the video clips and the external audio clips,
then in one of the menu drop downs at the top you
choose: make multi-cam sequence, then you can sync via audio.
