    Hi
Tried searching for this in past posts but didn’t find much.

I think I’m ready to go dual monitor but not sure how to proceed. Using V5.0d

I know I’m going to have to get a new video card, but not sure what kind of extra graphics slot is available inside. That’s why I’m still using the intergrated video. I knew I was going to upgrade. 😉 It’s an off-the-shelf, somewhat customized HP and it does a great job with Vegas and anything else I throw at it.

I’ve also heard to be careful with the LCD flat panel monitors to make sure I get one rated for video. Tiger Direct I think I saw had 2ns Flat Panels?

Figured to have the preview window full size on one monitor and the timeline and media bins on the left monitor. My NTSC monitor goes through my Canopus ADCD100 box.

So how would I do this and what Video cards do you recomment. Matrox or ATI or ??? Then how would I split vegas between monitors? I know Vegas isn’t dependent on graphics cards but I need to do something to get dual monitor capability.

    Thanks for the help
    Allen

Either ATI or NVIDIA work fine. Your computer may have an AGP slot for a graphics card. If it’s a newer machine, it may have a PCI-E slot. Your graphics card must be compatible with whatever slot your motherboard has.

Don’t throw out your NTSC monitor. Continue to use it for full-screen preview through Firewire. Use your second monitor to stretch the timeline. I also put my video preview window and my video scopes on the second monitor.

    Hi Doug
Thanks for your reply. No way am I going to get rid of the NTSC monitor. I’ll continue to use it through my Canopus ADVC100. My current View Sonic CRT would go to my son’s computer as he needs a newer monitor.

After all these years of editing I just figured out something many of the folks already knew about that ‘tiny’ preview screen in Vegas. I undocked it, clicked the “Best-Full preview and enlarged it. WALA! No more temporary rendering so I could see how my effects are. Then I figured I’d put that full sized preview window on a 2nd monitor. Didn’t need the NTSC monitor for this project as it’s only for play-back on computers, as are most all of my technical videos for this one company.

My question more was concerned with which type of graphics cards, as the field of preferences changes weekly 😉

    Thanks again
    Allen
