((This is a cross-post from the Sony DV forum. I’m cross posting here because I REALLY need help fast. Thank you for understanding.)
    Oh… Goodness.
I’m sitting here with a deadline almost come and gone and I’m STILL strugging to get my DSR 1500 to see my firewire. Very scarey.
The iLink light on the pannel is flashing, so, to me, that means bad things. I push the REC button and I’m told that there is no Input. I know the cable is good, because the computer (using Sony Vegas 5.0d) can digitize from that deck.
I’ve gone through the menues as best I’m able, but must be missing something.
ANY help and advice is greatly appreciated. My frustration level is nearing max and I’m close to my rope’s end.

I’d try a different cable anyway. Or, at least, try that cable hooked to a camera and see if THAT works.

    Thanks Edward.
I just walked back into the office here from the edit bay. I have new – and unfortunate info; on a lark, I tried a Print To Tape – – and that worked. As soon as Vegas started to Print To Tape, the i.Link indicator stopped flashing and the deck took the signle. That’s unfortunate, because it means that the 1500 only sees Vegas’ output when it PTT mode and there is no pass-through like there is on my DSR45. I can’t watch my edits on my NTSC monitor via the 1500.
    So very dissapointing.

Even if you turn on External preview? That should activate the connection the same as PTT.

I was about to suggest checking your firewire connector socket on the camera…but I see that you’ve discovered that the port is indeed working. I had a Sony camera a while back that the firewire port quit working. Come to find out, one of the small pins in the port jack was bent and pushed down into the back of the port. I think what caused this was the use of a cheap firewire cable. I had bought some of those cheap cables on ebay (about $1.35 each). NEVER use these cables!!!!!!! Only use good quality firewire cables with a camera or any other piece of equipment worth having. I learned my lesson the hard way. Sad thing is…I have good quality cables, I just tried one of the cheap cables to see if they work. BIG MISTAKE.

With some help from other forums, all is well. I had to work with the EE settings (as well as others) – and I had never even heard of EE settings. The things you learn here!
At any rate, as of today (well, late last night), all is well.
Thanks very much for the help and ideas!!!
