  • DSR-45 – edit to tape frame accuracy

Trying to edit a program to tape with DSR-45. It appears you have to change deck control to firewire from DSR-45 (which I capture with). I pre-stripe the first minute or so on tape with pre-set timecode. Then I perform an assemble edit from there with timecose on DSR-45 set to regen.

The problem is that my edits are usually 1 to 2 frames off – but it is never a consistent amount so I can’t fudge a pre-determined offset. It’s through a trial and error process that I can finally get a frame accurate output to DV tape. I check by looping through a the video out drom DSR-45 to VHS deck and check the 2-pop at 59:58:00 mark.

Is there a better way to do this so I can get consistent frame accurate edit to tape rather than trial and error?

    Thanks,

I had a similar situation with my machine but it was 7 frames off. Strange about yours, mine was very consistant in the 7 frame offset. I’d just have to set my inpoint 7 frames earlier than I really wanted. I think it has something to do with the firewire processing and the age of your computer.

My DSR-45 is consistently 10 frames off. I don’t know if it makes a difference, but I use firewire for audio and video, but RS-422 for deck control.

    Thanks,

Sorry but I’ve been led to believe that you can only use RS-422 deck control for capture but you have to switch to firewire deck control for edit to tape.

This is for the DSR-45 only as far as I know.

Well, when I first got the deck, I tried an edit to tape with firewire and having never heard of this issue before, I was completely stumped and thought I’d try RS422. It didn’t act much different, but when I finally figured it out, it was 10 frames off. I haven’t tried firewire again to see if it also is 10 frames off.
