  • dsr-45 compatibility in FCP 5.1

Does anyone know if the Sony DSR-45 dvcam deck is compatible with FCP 5.1? It is listed on Apple’s device page as compatible with FCP 5.0, but it’s not listed for 5.1 although the DSR 45A is. I’m thinking of buying a used deck on ebay.

I have a DSR-45 (not A) and it works just fine with FCP 5.1.2.

Works perfectly. However 2hour tapes might be a problem (those long dv tapes keeps dv decks think they have reached the end of tape since it’s so heavy to pull the wheels around)

We have dsr11 and dsr45 at our shop. We regulalry use 180 minute tapes in them without any trouble at all.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    Lier.LIER..

just kidding. Strange, we had this problem on both dsr-11 and dsr-45 models.. and I guess we tried at least 10 different ones. Maybe there were something wrong with the tapes (these were a big batch of tapes.) Oh well. It’s good to see that they worked for some.. We had to change into using 60 minutes tapes

We’ve used 184s on both DSR-11 and DSR-30 decks with no problems, when we have to. It’s a long way to shuttle though, and making dvd or vhs window dubs is a p.i.t.a.

On the DSR-11, there’s a switch on the back that sets the deck to automatically rewind & replay tapes. That switch should be set to off (and maybe taped down?). Perhaps there’s a similar switch on the DSR-45?

We have a terrible time with accurate time code on this deck. Maybe someone on this list can help? Are you able to get TC out correctly? Also just bought a decklink pro and can’t get the DSR-45 to see the YUV monitor out signal. Really frustrated. Any help would be appreciated!
