    Hi

Any suggestions on an entry level steady cam for DSLR shooting. Something to get used to that way of shooting?

    Thanks

Both the steadicam merlin and glidecam hd2000 are good options. i would recommend renting them first from a local video rental house so you can determine which is right for you. It takes quite a bit of practise to get good at so practise lots, run with it, and master it. I started with a glidecam smooth shooter which incorporates the glidecam 4000 sled and also an arm and vest. Last year i upgraded to the steadicam pilot and it is amazing. I find that the glidecam is good but nothing beats a steadicam. It is in my opinion perfect engineering.

If you start with a handheld Steadicam Merlin you can upgrade later with the vest and arm package.

You can then upgrade the vest and arm package to the compatible Steadicam Pilot sled.

Eventually you’ll be addicted to Steadicam and can mortgage your house and buy a Steadicam Clipper or Ultra.

To use the camera as a handheld on a Merlin you do not need to remove it from the Merlin, just fold the base and it makes a good hand grip under the lens.
For tripod mounting they also supply an adaptor for fast change overs that saves fiddly re-trimmnig when going back to the Steadicam Merlin.
