Dropping In Clips to Timeline Question

Don’t think so, but it’s certainly easy enough to drop the clip(s) on the timeline, cancel building the waveform and delete the audio track–even if you have lots of clips on the track.

Right click the event (what Vegas calls a clip and drag it to the timeline. Once you get there, release your mouse button and you’ll have several options, one of which is Video only with 3 options depending on what you want to do with it.

Yep, Left click instead and drag to the timeline, then you will see your options!

Mike, Steve. Glad I was wrong when I said “Don’t think so”. That’s a very useful tip. Let me ask another question. If you have an edited clip on the timeline that you’ve added without the audio, can you later add the audio track, keeping it in sync with the video track that’s already been sliced up?

Wayne, if you mean adding the audio to the event that you dropped on the timeline and didn’t edit any further, then the answer is yes. Use the same method described earlier but choose Audio Only instead of Video Only. Remember to group the audio and video together when you do this as they will no longer be synced together.
If you’ve edited the event to be shorter than it was, open the desired edited event in the trimmer. This shows you the entire event with the edited portion highlighted. Add the audio to the timeline using whatever method you usually use when working with the trimmer.
p.s. the “right click – drag to timeline” works here too.

My mistake, it is by right clicking and then drag, as Mike also pointed out.

Wayne, what i use when this happens that is quite easy, is the
Restore Audio/Video feature available in Vegasaur.

Use the trimmer to select the media you want to add, then hit TAB to toggle through selecting audio, video, or both. Then drag and drop the selection, or there are buttons to insert the media at the cursor similar to the way AVID works.

Thanks a lot for your replies. Since I use Vegasaur, that seems the easiest. Quite frankly, this doesn’t happen very often. In fact, I can’t remember the last time. Sadly, the next time it does occur, I probably will have forgotten how to do it. There’s not much to be said for getting older.
