  • Dropping frames AJA KONA 3

    Hi to all,

I have problem with AJA KONA 3 and dropping frames from Final cut studio 3. As soon as i switch audio output to Built in audio, dropping frames stops. No dropping frames from AJA TV.
My configuration: Mac Pro 3,1 2×2.8, 8 gig RAM, Snow Leopard 10.6.2, Quicktime 7.6.3, Aja Kona 3 (7.5 driver), RedRocket, ATI 4780, Atto ExpressSAS R348. I have 16 disk RAID with about 450 Mb/s read and write.
I try to trash preferences of QuickTime, FInal Cut, reinstall aja software and everything else that i find on this forum, but nothing helps.

There’s a current thread over on the Red forum where they say that Red Rocket conflicts with Kona cards. YOu may want to look into the RR as a possible cause.

Have you tried an audio mixdown? Sequence menu > Render Only > Mixdown (or press Command + Option + R)

There is no audio on the timeline. When i select KONA 3 as audio output in Final Cut dropping frames starts. When switch to Built in audio everything is fine.

pull out your Red Rocket card, and see if your problem is fixed.
Your ATTO R348 card is a wonderful hi speed card, and your array should be easily able to support your playback

If removing the Red Rocket does not resolve this problem, please post your resoltion, the frame rate you are working at, and any other info that you may have on your system.

Did you solve this problem? I’m having the same issue. I had it 6 months ago when I first added the RR card- solved it temporarily by putting the RR in its own CPU, but now I want it to share a mac with the Kona 3. Let us know if you found a solution!

I seem to of solved the problem by swapping out the NVidia card for an ATI card. Yee haw! Hope someone with the same problem finds this forum.

    Naturally, YMMV

Huh. I see that now. Well… wish I had an answer for that! Switching from Nvidia to ATI solved what I guess was a ‘similar problem’ for me. If you figure it out, please post!
