Lots of possibilities. You are capturing via firewire? Not sure what you mean by capturing analog via an Adaptec firewire card.

First thing I would check: Is DMA active on your hard drive(s)?

I just mean I have a camcorder hooked up to DVMC-DA2 device which is feeding an Adaptec Firewire card. it’s a Duo Connect.

Yes, DMA is enabled on all my drives by default.

I would first verify that, although set to “use dma if available” that it actually IS using DMA.

OK I checked it out and I’m in compliance with everything they show there…. now I’m wondering if i’ve got some chipset issue or other BS thing I’m going to have to deal with… sigh… this is such a MAJOR pain.. this is why i have put off capturing for so long..

What are my other options? Are there any other proven, effective, reliable means of capturing in existence??

bring up TASK MANAGER to see what else is taking up CPU ..

is the duo connect card the 1394a & USB2 ? if YES – make sure you are using adaptec drivers not XP drivers

Make sure that deck control is disabled, so Vegas Capture knows that you will be starting and stopping the camera manually.

Are you sure all other programs are shut down, even those running in the background. Might downlaod EnditAll. I use this program to shut down everything on my computer when I go to work with Vegas.
