Dropping Edited 23.98 into SD Sequence for SD Mastering
I dropped in my edited footage, DVCproHD, 23.98 PsF into an Uncompressed 10 bit Standard Def Sequence.
I am operating on a dual 2.5 with FCP 4.5, with a Kona 2 card.2 things:
The frame rate conversion seemed to happen automatically, leaving a barley acceptable jitteriness to the footage. Is there any way to adjust or further refine this step?
And is there a way to decide what to do with this HD footage in respect to aspect ratio? It has defaulted to letterbox, without a seemingly obvious way to iterpred differentley; i.e. Pan&Scan/Edge Crop, or Anamorphic.

I am operating on a dual 2.5 with FCP 4.5, with a Kona 2 card.”Are you simply trying to downconvert this for an SD master? The Kona 2 will do this in real-time on output via your HD timelime. It’s incredibly clean with no need to render or re-set anything.
Just use the Kona 2 Control Panel and you can set the Component output to SD-DownConvert and then you can decide whether to Letterbox, Crop or Pan and Scan.

If you’re doing a straight downconvert, no you leave your timeline as an HD timeline and play it straight out. The Kona 2 will downconvert it on the way to your SD deck.
If you’re wanting to add material to the letterboxed area, then yes, you’ll need to set up a 29.97 SD 8 or 10bit timeline and re-size the footage to however you want it to look. You’ll then have to render out the entire timeline before mastering.
