Dropping audio and video clips into timeline by their timecode / start time
Posted by Michael Williams on August 21, 2014 at 8:59 pmHi All,
Thanks for all your help! Starting a new project and have video clips and audio clips that all have their own start times (Time of Day timecode at the shoot). Is there a way to drop them into the project timeline all at once, and they will move to their start times on the timeline?
Thanks!

Select multiple clips, and drag them directly onto the timeline.
[Michael Williams] “and they will move to their start times on the timeline?”
No…they will go one after the other, butting up against each other.

Pricey, but worth it in the long run -

August 21, 2014 at 10:43 pmThis looks cool. Dees it create gaps automatically between clips in the timeline when there is time between the out and the next clips In?
Thanks!

I tried your first suggestion, yep they all go in together, ignoring their start times.
Is there some way to have them all sort to their start times once they are loaded into a timeline?
Thanks!

August 21, 2014 at 11:49 pmOnly with the software mentioned. FCP doesn’t do this on it’s own.
Why are you looking to do this?

August 21, 2014 at 11:51 pmHi Nick,
I read through the Sync-N-Link doc here:
https://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/Sync-N-Link-X/help/Sync-N-Link%20X%20-%20Help.pdfI have each camera in a separate event as they suggest, and I can create a separate timeline for each camera of the shoot, but would need to have the clips within that timeline automatically go into their timeline at their start times. The clips have time gaps between them, it would be fine to have those gaps filled with FCPX gaps (or not) It seems Syn-n-lync is for aligning clips “vertically so they start at the same time. I’m looking for something that just puts clips into the timeline based on their start times.
Any thoughts?

August 22, 2014 at 1:24 amAs stated, Sequence Liner from Spherico does this, but it’s only for FCP 7 and earlier. Sounds like you are using FCPX because you mentioned Gap Ciips.
Avid has this feature and it’s called Autosequence. This is the FCP 7 forum. You might get a better solution in the FCPX Techniques Forum. If you are looking to have the same six people have an endless, heated, circular discussion, that has nothing to do with your question, try posting in the FCP X or Not (The Debate) Forum.
