Dropping audio and video clips into timeline by their timecode / start time

Select multiple clips, and drag them directly onto the timeline.

No…they will go one after the other, butting up against each other.

I tried your first suggestion, yep they all go in together, ignoring their start times.

Is there some way to have them all sort to their start times once they are loaded into a timeline?

Only with the software mentioned. FCP doesn’t do this on it’s own.

Hi Nick,

I read through the Sync-N-Link doc here:

I have each camera in a separate event as they suggest, and I can create a separate timeline for each camera of the shoot, but would need to have the clips within that timeline automatically go into their timeline at their start times. The clips have time gaps between them, it would be fine to have those gaps filled with FCPX gaps (or not) It seems Syn-n-lync is for aligning clips “vertically so they start at the same time. I’m looking for something that just puts clips into the timeline based on their start times.

Any thoughts?

As stated, Sequence Liner from Spherico does this, but it’s only for FCP 7 and earlier. Sounds like you are using FCPX because you mentioned Gap Ciips.
Avid has this feature and it’s called Autosequence.

This is the FCP 7 forum. You might get a better solution in the FCPX Techniques Forum. If you are looking to have the same six people have an endless, heated, circular discussion, that has nothing to do with your question, try posting in the FCP X or Not (The Debate) Forum.

ditto what Shane ays re the correct forum,

FCP X can do this, cant it?
i beleive it can put gaps in multi cam angles for the stop starts.
