Dropped frames while capturing old tapes
Hi all.
Using a Canopus ADVC-55 to capture onto an iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 1067 MHz RAM, running 10.6.4.
I want to capture old VHS, Beta and U-matic tapes which go back 30 years, but there are often unstable syncs, and I often get skipped frames, in FCP and even iMovie.
Is there any device out there that generates new video sync to replace the old, bad sync? I just want to capture the whole of the source without jumps, and am not concerned if there are bad frames throughout.
Short of filming the source material off a screen, is there any way around this at all? I am at my wit’s end.
Any help appreciated.

You need a time base corrector, or machines that have it in them.
