    Dropped Frames on SD capture

    Hi there,

    New to the mac and FCP (been using Avid on a pc for the last no of years)

    I bought the following set up:

    Mac Pro – Two 3.0GHz Quad Core, 8GB Ram, NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT 512MB GDDR3, 320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s, Five USB ports, Two FireWire 400 ports and Two Firewire 800 ports; 1.5TB internal RAID

    Mac OS X 10.5.2; QT version 7.4.5; FCP 6.0.3

    “Getting Organized in Final Cut Pro” – Shane Ross (invaluable!!)

    My problem is that I am capturing footage from my DSR-11 deck (DVCAM originated from Sony DSR450) via the fw400 (and also tried the fw800) port on the front of the mac and I am getting dropped frames on capture.

    I have the capture scratch set to the 1.5TB internal raid

    The RAID is formatted as mac os extended (journalled) – I am going to switch journalling off – but from the various threads it should not make much difference – as this is DV footage.

    I have read through the numerous posts on dropped frames and and am wondering has anyone any suggestions on what is causing the dropped frames on capture?

    I would update both quicktime & FCP to the latest versions. That setup should never have issues with DV. I suspect the FCP quicktime combo as your hardware is well over spec.

    Most people moved quickly off the earlier and buggy version of vers 6 and there have been some quicktime versions that were for the iPhone and not helpful for FCP

    Of course, the other thing you will find out about FCP is the trick of trashing preferences and repairing disk permissions when things behave badly. Searching this forum will describe in great details how to do this.

    There are a few excellent free utilities to help with this.

    Hello again,

    I have updated the OS, FCP and QT to the latest versions.

    I have used disk warrior and “techtool deluxe” to check all my drives – and all show up as ok.

    However, I am still getting the dropped frames issue.

    I captured 3 clips x 20 minutes – and got a dropped frame on the third clip.

    Can anyone help?
