Dropped Frames in FCP off ESATA connection
I’m running a Apple OSX 10.5.8 on 2 x 3GHz intel core, 6GB RAM, and Final Cut 7.0.
I have a OC Mercury AL Pro Qx2 hard drive enclosure with four 2TB striped at raid 0. The ESATA card is a high point rocket raid 2314.
I get the following message and cannot figure out why (the RT playback one):
We just got the new ESATA card and are still getting this message during playback sometimes. I thought ESATA was supposed to be faster than firewire.
Any ideas on how I can stop this message from showing up? (It shows up every now and again, but not every time)

Turn it off. There’s a button you can check on to turn off the warning. The only problem that dropped frames really cause is if you’re laying out to tape, and there are ways to make your final output play OK after the edit is done.
What format are you editing? ProRes? or?

We re-compressed everything to Apple ProRes 422 HQ from XDCAM-EX3.

Be sure your renders are being saved on the array …
Rendering the effects not rendered will improve playback, as will setting the quality of the playback behaviors in the RT pop up menu (Timeline window) , might try playing around with those.

Ok. I just bought a setup with the Mercury Elite Qx2, and a MAXPower 6G RAID card. I’m running on a brand new MacPro 8-core with 12GB of RAM. I keep getting the drop frame error with smal 1-4min sequences of ProRes footage, and the error message says my drives are too slow. I tested the Qx2 with AJA’s system test, and it says the Read/Write speed is only 173MB/s and 241MB/s. I tried different PCI slots and the speed just gets worse. The 8TB RAID still has 7.83TB of space and is set to RAID 0. Any ideas? I made sure to install the driver that was 10.6 compatible (on my 10.6 system)
