Dropped Frames During Playback on Decklink Studio
Just upgraded to a new HP Z600 workstation with a Blackmagic Decklink Studio and an nVidia Quadro FX 3800, but am having dropped frame issues.

https://vimeo.com/13888631For storage, we use an external eSATA 4-bay SOHOTANK system with an ample data transfer rate of about 150MB/sec, so that’s not the cause of the problem.
Thoughts? Do you have similar issues?
Windows7 64-bit, 12 GB RAM with Decklink 7.7.2 drivers and latest nVidia drivers. All Adobe apps up-to-date.

Hi.
You are trying to play 2 streams of video which means 2 times the data.
How much data is needed for your media format ?
I would have 50% free n array if possible when array is small and there are not so meny drives.
Also if you have hard compressed format then some machines will drop as cpu can not play etc.

Thanks for the reply. I’m using an external eSATA SOHOTANK 4-drive RAID array for my storage. The read/write thoughoput is about 150MB/second, which I’m, told should be adequate for playback in my scenario.
Plus, if it were a drive speed issue, why then would it work when GPU acceleration is off?

If gpu off gives you better results then yes probably it is not the drive.
Mostly people get drop on drive issue. You could run some drive tests.
You will never know maybe one of the drives is bad or is going to be bad etc.
Just run BM drive test and you will see what it sees.Id take all possible cases and eliminate them one by one.
Just be creative and methodical. Always consider problems in co operation.I had to turn off gpu support in motion for instance. Now all is smooth as silk.

Yes, our solution (for now) is to leave the GPU acceleration OFF. Seems a shame, however. It looks so promising and tempting.

So there you see if you have 10 bit hd then it is not really likely to work 🙂
If gpu makes it bad then gpu, driver or capture card direct show etc is bad or combination of those things.
Lets see if someone has same results. I use mac and i’m really happy with it.

I also have a similar problem with the new intensity pro shuttle.
I was wondering if there was any resolution of fixes that might apply to the dropped frame issue. Drive speed seems OK. I have tried checking off the dropped frame box and disabling GPU but it’s still bad using any of the the BM presets.Here is my drive speed.

This is obviously a widespread issue, but unfortunately, Black Magic doesn’t feel it’s serious enough to address.
We’ve just learned to deal with it.
