    Hey guys,

I’m using Vegas 7 and have been using it professionally for a couple of years, but I’ve ran into a slight snag and I’m hoping someone can help.

I’m capturing a tape from miniDV, but it keeps dropping frames from the very start. I have everything set up just like always. I have about 50GB of free space on an external drive, but it’s still dropping frames.

The only thing different today is that I’ve swapped out one of my monitors with a newer one (I run dual monitors). Would that effect it any? I’ve even tried turning off my new monitor. I also tried turning off the video preview.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Could it be that the tape was forward and reversed rewinded during the shooting, which caused it to have unused pieces on the tape? That will give you lost frames during capturing, which will have no effect on your editing.

Most times when little nags like that reaches me,
i just draw for my flawless little “winDV” to help out.

Thanks for the response. No. I used this tape to dub a VHS and I didn’t fastforward or rewind. I just let it play all the way through. The dropped frames are affecting the editing process. That’s actually how it was brought to my attention. The clip was “choppy” on the timeline. I have used this tape several times, so I may try a new tape.

Any other suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!

Using a new tape might solve your problems instantly. I would try that first…

It turned out that there was a problem with my external hard drive.
