Hello everyone. I’m learning AE 6.5 and I am currently working through the Meyers’ Creating Motion Graphics with AE Volume 1. There’s something I’ve not been able to figure out, which is that I apply a drop shadow to an illustrator file (a picture of a target) – but my shadow looks terrible. It looks like just a pixelated mess that might approximate a shadow. The smooth and nice shadow seen in the picture in the book, and the movie on the included DVD, is nowhere to be found.

I’ve set the illustrator file to continually rasterize, and set the quality settings to best and it looks the same – bad. I’ve also tried rendering, and it looks the same in the finished product. I know I’m missing something here, or have something out of order…

Any ideas? Thanks so much for the help!

How about the “continuous rasterize” button? It is the little icon next to the shy button. If you scaled the .ai file, it will pixelate if you do not have it set to continuously rasterize. However, you did not mention anything about the actual file pixelating. It would also pixelate if scaled with the c. rasterize button checked.
