    Drop Shadow doesn’t work with Cropped Video Clips

    I’ve created a drop shadow effect in Motion 5 and published it to FCPX.

    It works fine with still images: photos, logos, etc.

    But it does not seem to work at all with video clips if I crop them.

    What I’m trying to do is put a drop shadow around a scaled down
    and cropped video clip that’s sitting above a white background.

    I’ve got the white background and clip in the timeline, but when I apply
    my drop shadow effect, it works fine with the original image, cut not
    if I want to crop that image.

    Any ideas, workarounds?

    Crop your clip and then make it a compound clip (Option G). Add the shadow to that.
