I am trying to complete the tutorial “Drop Into Caustics” but am having a bit of trouble. I am pretty sure I am following the directions but I am having no luck.

First problem is that when I apply caustics to my bottom layer, it changes color dramatically. The tutorial says it shouldn’t change the layer but it definately changes. Next, my wave layer is grey. I have mimicked the file structure of the tutorial and it looks like the wave layer is left invisible. If I do this then I get no result at all. I have choosen the water surface file ro be the wave pre-comp.

    Obviously I am missing something.

    Is it something obvious?

Is your comp background or bottom layer black? I have sometimes had strange color changes when I have a layer at the bottom that is not black or white (when using things like layer modes.)

I am having similiar problems as well. The Waveworld layer never changes from greyscale and has no transparency. I am using 7.0 trial could that have something to do with it?
