I’m really hoping someone can clear this up for me…

I’ve recently installed a new Blackmagic Decklink driver (6.6 for Windows XP) and it has come up with a load of problems in Premiere so I’ve now re-installed the DL driver I had before (6.4), but something’s gone screwy in PPro…

If I put a clip in the timeline and then shift it forward 1 frame and try to play from 00:00:00:00 it won’t play and when I delete the clip from the timeline it’s still in the monitor window…Premiere invariably crashes when I try to play blank space in the timeline now aswell – whereas it didn’t used to.

I usually playout my mograph clips to our editor with a frame of nothing at the start so he knows exactly which is the first frame..but now it won’t work!!

    IS THIS NORMAL GUYS?

Also, I’ve just started getting this error message whenever I try to render a clip on the timeline:
“Disk Write Error. Verify drive connections, available disc space and disk access priveleges. THen save, close and re-launch the project.”

Could the 2 be linked and any suggestions hwo I fix either/both?!?

Thanks for any advice – I need it!

(BTW – my RAID drives are defragged and about 40% free space)

    Jimmy,
Sounds like you’ve got a slight nightmare here. Did you say that this was working before you upgraded the BlackMagic drivers? If this is the case and you have reinstalled the older drivers and your problems are still there or worse…different, I know this is hard, but you may have to uninstall the BlackMagic Card Software. Try to reinstall/repair install Premiere Pro. Then reinstall the BM Card. Pretend you are installing everything for the first time. This means you might have to uninstall and reinstall everything. Repair might not fix the driver error, because it’s not overwriting the file causing the issues.
I’ve had prob’s like this with the Matrox Cards. Pretending to install from scratch always fixes it. Hope it does with yours.

GULP. It might have to come to that John..

Yeah – I was using 6.4 DL driver before and everything was rosy…I don’t understand! The driver is the ONLY software for the card, so that’s been totally uninstalled and re-installed with various combinations of Quicktime to try get it working again, but no joy.

Hadn’t thought of re-installing Premiere, could work I suppose. Would I have to re-install the whole production suite or just Prem do you reckon?

Oh btw – I got rid of the disc drive error – seemed to be a corrupt project that wasn’t letting me render. I use the same ‘capture/playout’ project almost all the time…maybe it’d taken a hammering!? Or maybe this Decklink thing ahs screwed it.

That said – the ‘not playing blank space in timeline’ problem still remains, even with a fresh project. John – in your experience is not being able to play a space before your first clip normal? I definitely used to be able to do it!

Playing before a clip in the timeline should work fine. I’d say Premiere has gotten odd from the BM card drivers – how it connects to the timeline to playback stuff without rendering. Reinstall the whole Suite to be safe. I know it takes hours. Try just reinstalling only Premiere Pro and see how that goes. Otherwise reinstall the lot. I tend to search on the net for other people to install any updates and see how they’ve faired before I update any software (esp. if it’s working perfectly already). Good Luck

Cheers Jon, yeah I should have double checked it was safe to upgrade first…so difficult to gauge though on a PC when there’s so many variants – no system is the same!

I’ll try re-install Prem and see how I get on. Sigh…

This is definitely a weird problem.

I won’t pretend to know the answer, but as most of us need to make a living, even when we have problems, might I suggest trying to place your video clips on V2 and a black clip on V1 to fool whatever is causing the crash into playing the “black” space as opposed to “blank” space…?

It might at least keep you moving forward while you chase the issue…

Aha! I tried one last ditch attempt at a working pairing of the DL driver and QT and it now works! (DL 6.4 + QT 7.2 if anyone else is having this problem)

I am NEVER upgrading drivers again!

Thanks for your advice though guys.
