    Here’s a weird problem.

I have a couple drives that show up in my system profiler but don’t show up on my desktop or finder windows. Sometimes one of the drives shows up on restart – sometimes both – sometimes neither. I’m on a PPC g5, dual 1.8 OSX 10.4.11 and I have them connected to a Lacie PCI card with 3 Firewire 800 inputs. I’m guessing that card is going bad, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Try going to Disk Utility and seeing if they show up there. Occasionally, a drive will show up in System Profiler or Disk Utility, but the volume won’t “mount” automatically. If the volume appears in Disk Utility greyed out, click on it, and click the “Mount” button on the top of the window.

Or it could be another issue, like the drive getting disconnected prematurely, and fsck is fixing it before mounting it. If you let the computer and the drive sit for, say, an hour, will the volumes eventually show up?
