    I have 4 mac G5 systems.

3 of them consistently for some reason, open the drive tray
on startup and just leave it open inviting dust to come in.

    one of them does not.

These systems are always shut down with the drive tray closed.

anyone know how to fix this so they stay shut at all times?

All I can think of is the fact that holding down the mouse button on startup will open the tray. Try switching mice. Try cleaning out the USB plug. See if you can get anything to change.

However, I thought of that before I opened your post and saw that there are THREE computers doing it. That seems like some kind of software problem in some program you use. The mouse-thing is my only guess, though.

    no programs on startup.

I may have an answer though, the 3 that do it have wireless keyboards and mice. The 1 that does not has regular wired input peripherals.
