I have a external drive formatted for PC, and have used it with no problems for awhile, but just recently the drive is recognized as a local disk instead of external. It works fine and is recognized on a mac, but when plugged into the PC via USB cord, the drive will not open and recognized as a local drive instead of external. it has worked fine in the past but just recently had this issue. any ideas?

Check your format type. I had a similiar problem, and it turned out the drive was formatted FAT32. I reformatted to NTFS, and it started working again.
