Hi, looking to optimise After Effects CS6 on a Mac, with occasional use of Premiere.

    I currently have:

120GB Sandisk Extreme SSD – OS / programs
    1TB Seagate Barracuda – Projects / media

I’m looking to buy another drive or 2. Was thinking:

    Samsung 840 Pro 256GB – disk cache / media cache / exports / preview

Or maybe another HDD for exports?

If anyone could advise a good setup and where various things should be located on these drives I’d really appreciate it.

    Thanks.

The most important thing for After Effects is to have your disk cache on the fastest drive over the fastest bus.

Thanks Todd. Would I be right in thinking the fastest bus is a SATA III 6GBs port on my motherboard?

I think I’ll have to get that Samsung 840 Pro 256GB as I’ve discovered the 120GB Sandisk Extreme is poor for incompressible data, which I assume is what AE needs? Also, 120GB for OS, apps and disk cache is getting a bit tight.

My only debate is whether I need another HDD, perhaps for previews and exports?

In the end I went for:

    – 120GB Sandsik Extreme SSD: OS and apps
    – 240GB Samsung 840 Pro: Disk cache, previews, media cache
    – 1TB Seagate Barracuda: Project files
    – 500GB Seagate Barracuda: Exports

Do you think that’s a good setup?
