Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Drifting Audio

I sent an omf of a 82 minute timeline to the mixer – there were no sync issues. After laying back the 48k wav files, the mixed audio starts to increasingly drift out of sync. What should I be looking for?

    Thanks!

Firstly you have to help us by telling us what frame rate you edited in, what audio system was used to make the final mix file and how you imported it into FCP.

A search of this forum will also show you that this is very common problem and has been answered many times.

My recommendation is to firstly convert the file to 48Khz aif and import that instead. FCP is trying to be smart with wav files and so often it labels the file with a frame rate that is incorrect. It may also be that the problem is in the frame rate used by the audio system. This commonly happens when 23.976 and 24 frames are confused

I agree with Michael. It’s probably a confused frame rate. I’ve also seen increasing and significant drift when one file is dropframe and one is non-dropframe. That could account for an increasing drift versus as well.

    Thank you both. FYI:
    The project was DVCPro 720P/24

As it turns out, somewhere along the way (and the problem began after the project was returned from color grading), audio was apparently being imported at 25fps, rather than 24. Whether due to a project corruption or just an inadvertent setting change, this seems to have been the problem.

I began with a blank project, re-imported the audio and video files, and it seems all is well. Or at least until I post again. Thanks again.
