  Drawing on a new layer?

  Is there any way to set a preference in illustrator to automatically draw on a new layer without having to add a new layer manually? I just cant get in the habit of hitting com-L every time i make a new shape. I animate allot of my illustrator designs in after effects and unless all my shapes are on seperate layers i cant animate them individually.
