“Drawing” a graph in Vegas Pro 11
Posted by Søren Sørensen on October 27, 2013 at 4:59 pmDear Forum,
Can a graph be “drawn” in Vegas? (e.g. as shown in attachment)
That is:
Can the X-axis start in a point and extend upwards.
& can the y-axis start in a point and extend to the right.
& can the red arrow be made in anyway, where is appears to be drawn from end-to-arrow?BR

October 27, 2013 at 6:00 pmSøren, I ‘m sure there’s more than one way to do it but what I did was take your map into Photoshop, paint out the lines and arrow, add them to their own layers, save them separately and bring them into Vegas.
Once there, I staggered each layer by one second and added the appropriate transition.
The attached file (done in Pro 10) has the veg file and individual graphic layers. -

October 28, 2013 at 12:59 pmYou don’t have to save Photoshop layers separately. You can add them to Vegas as a single file. This makes easier future modifications to the Photoshop file.
Just drag and drop the Photoshop file into Vegas time-line using your mouse right button, and select “add across tracks”. This way you will have each Photoshop layer in a track. Just right click the layers, remove from group, and you are ready to play with them.

October 28, 2013 at 8:47 pmThank you all 3,
Stepen – how did you make the arrow “draw” itself?
What transitions / mask can accomplish that?BR

October 28, 2013 at 9:02 pmI worked it out using cookie cutter, and ‘animate’ the center position.
But not sure that’s the smart way to do it.

October 31, 2013 at 9:32 amHi, a bit off track here but if you just need a line as a graph indicator instead of an arrow you could download Route Generator(free).
You can then put a background of your choice (still or video) and animate a line,
any thickness and colour, over it. This will generate a series of BMPs which you can import into SV as a “still image sequence” on the timeline…render as normal after that…it’s free and a nice tool to have, Pete.
