  • DPX export documentation?

Posted by Jef Huey on January 30, 2013 at 4:24 am

I need to export a timeline as DPX files. I am trying to find documentation as to what the various controls mean as they do not correlate to other apps I use that create DPX. And I am finding nothing in the help tool in Premiere.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Jef

I’ve done some DPX exports out of Premiere. It works but it isn’t optimal. What do you want to know?

I want to output DPX files to go to Resolve. The problem I am having is that the DPX test I have conducted shows clipping of video over 100ire. Many cameras still create video over 100ire and I do not want to lose that. Plus the test I have done seem to show that all the presets are not dealing with the gamma curve inherent in 709 video correctly.

It is sad that Adobe makes a product with lots of adjustment options but NO documentation on how to utilize the adjustments.

Oddly, you may find this page from Apple Color very helpful.

    https://documentation.apple.com/en/color/usermanual/index.html#chapter=17%26section=7%26tasks=true

Sadly, since DPX is an import/export format, Adobe usually skips specifics on things like these rather than addressing it in a whitepaper like an end-to-end workflow or something.

Thanks. That is good basic info.

Unfortunately it does not help clarify the tools in the DPX output module for Premiere. My tests have not lead to a preset that gets the result I need.

What footage are you exporting and what are your export settings?
