  • Downrez footage to cut in fcp

I am editing a documentary in FCP, have a total of 6 TB of a mixture of SD and HD footage, mostly HD and three HD formats in all between the cameras used.

What I need to do is downrez the footage for the assistant editor so he can have access on his drive to all footage shot and all 6 TB from my drive need to fit on his 2 TB drive. I have tried H.264 downrez in MPEG Streamclip but when I bring into FCP it needs rendered which wont work.

In the end all of the sequences cut with the low rez footage need to be reconnected with the high rez footage and I want to make sure this will work before downrezing all these clips and having asst editor cut all his sequences only for it not to reconnect correctly.

    Any advice/suggestions much appreciated!

    thanks!

Transcode all the footage to Apple ProRes proxy for offlining.

Use the MEDIA MANAGER to do this. The RECOMPRESS option. THis is what the Media Manager is for.
