  • Downloading an Arri Lut

Hi, I have used FCP for a while, yet haven’t needed to use a LUT until now, and I have no idea how to find and download one. I have searched online but haven’t been able to make sense of the results I’m getting.
I have been given a few aerial files which are flat. I spoke with the supplier and he suggested I needed to get Arri Alexa LUT or an Arri Raw LUT.
One link sent me to the Arri site and there was a LUT generator which I had a go at but couldn’t make sense of what it created for me. I tried to see if any could import some of the many files into the LUT section in FCP but they had no effect on the clip.
Could anyone guide me to a link that would be able to help me? Thanks Dominick

FCPX already includes ARRI LogC-to-Rec709 LUTs. These are automatically added to native Alexa, Mini, Amira ProRes clips.

That was helpful in that I learnt the way of applying a LUT to the clip but the free download options didn’t really improve the quality of the shot at all.
I have been told to get a particular LUT, Arri Alexa or Arri Raw but I cannot find a link to them online.

    Thanks anyway. Dominick

    Not all LUTs are winners.
You still need to work the Color board/wheel.

    Hi Oliver,
nothing seems to be being automatically added to the clips.
I went through the info button, and the general section and added the Arri Log C preset.
It improved the picture a bit but not as much as I had hoped.
I’m not sure if it’s just because the camera/drone operator was filming into the sun and this is as good as the shot gets

OK, I’d be willing to bet this is NOT ARRI Alexa/Amira/Mini Log-C footage. Especially not from a drone, unless it were a very big one. Note that the inspector says AVC encoder. ARRI footage is either ARRIRAW or ProRes.

This is likely DJI set to a flat profile. Adding an Alexa LogC LUT would be the wrong thing to do because the color science is different. Did you try one of the DJI custom LUTs that you have listed in the pulldown? That might actually be the right match.

You can either get the right LUT to match the specific camera model and apply it manually, or simply grade the shot with FCPX’s color correction tools. I would recommend the latter approach.
