    Very good point, David…

ALWAYS clone your system drive before ANY update. This will save your butt. Drives are cheap and there is no reason not to have an external firewire drive for cloning purposes.

[Jerry Hofmann] “like 6.0.5 adds native R3D editing,”

    wow! Really!

actual .r3d editing on the timeline?

not transcoding to prores via log & transfer?

[David Roth Weiss] “I don’t agree with that. Making a clone before updating is the way to have the most up to date software, with complete security too.”

That’s a valid point. And for a single seat I would do that.

But I have several systems to support, so if one is updated, ALL must
be updated to stay in synch.

going through the motions of this takes time, time that I can’t
spend unless the rooms are not booked.

I come from an I.T. background and have seen many disastrous results
from updates, so I’m very paranoid in that respect.

I live and die by: if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

If I don’t really need to update my fcp systems I won’t and it’s
worked out just fine for my studio the last few years.

but that’s my particular situation. Everyone’s is different. 🙂

Well, I can say that this is the first time I upgraded and it seems to make a difference. I had no real choice as I have purchased the Keylight plug-in for FCP and suddenly my system was having issues with scrubbing over multiclips or doing basic edits. I could be maxing out the system I suppose, but it seems to be working better now with the upgrade. If anyone has any thoughts on the Keylight issue, I’m all ears.

    FCP 6.0.5
    Keylight 2.0v2
5 camera, DVCPRO HD 720p24 multiclip
Keylight filter to key out green screen
a few 8 point garbage mattes on a few of the clips.

And do excuse me for posting this under this thread. Thanks.

Will I have any issues upgrading from 6.01 to 6.05? I need to be able to edit XDCAM.

I’m also at system 10.5.2 and QT 7.4.1, so I’m assuming I will need to upgrade this as well.

    Thanks,
