    Hey guys,
I have a Decklink HD Extreme drive here. Just got tons of footage from client on HDcam (it is 1920×1080…but doesn’t say what frame rate on the tapes, ugh!), even though we were supposed to get digibetas. So…we were thinking of renting a deck. Was toying with the idea of bringing it in uncompressed, but it is going to be really huge if we do that. So…since this is actually for an SD spot, was wondering if it makes sense to bring it in at 1080 DVCPRO HD instead, or to bring it in uncompressed but down rez it to 1280×720 on ingest? I guess that leads me to the second question…can this card do that? I know it can capture with the DVCPROHD codec, but can I do a realtime down conversion from 1080 to 720?

    Thanks,
    Eli

    Hi Eli,

We don’t down convert 1080 to 720 so capturing to either DVCPRO HD or JPEG would be the best options for your offline work. We use Apple’s PhotoJPEG codec and it is full resolution 1920×1080 but it doesn’t support RT effects. On the other hand, DVCPRO HD is not full resolution but it does support RT effects. One of these two formats should be appropriate for you.
